About Ocala Estate
Our Story
Delve into the History of Ocala
uilt in 1957 by the prominent Jim L. Gillis Jr. and his wife, Katherine, this stately home was the primary residence of this family until 2018. Mr. Gillis was known as a local banker, timber man, cattleman, farmer and lifelong resident of Treutlen County, Georgia. He comes from a long line of ambitious and influential men who served the State of Georgia for nearly 200 years.
His father, Mr. Jim L. Gillis, Sr. was an effective politician and served as the Director of GA State Highway Board for more than 15 years. He helped create Georgia's modern highway system, converting them from dirt to concrete and pavement. A stretch of I-16 from Macon to Savannah is named in his honor.
Mr Jim. L. Jr.'s grandfather, Neil Gillis is know as the "Father of Treutlen County." As a banker and large land owner, Mr. Gillis effectively campaigned for the development of Treutlen County. He effectively named it after Georgia's first official Governor, Mr. John Adam Treutlen.
After its purchase in 2021, the new owner restored and converted the estate into a premier event space. The property is named after her beloved grandmother, Vivian Ocala Morris.
